Summary/Abstract: Theophylact archbishop of Ohrid, author of Clement's Long Life, early in his tenure became acquainted with the Cyrillo-Methodian background of his Archdiocese. The tradition of the Cyrillo-Methodian mission, the spiritual presence of Clement and Naum, their literary and educational work and building activity was still alive around Ohrid. In this article we examine the historical reasons that led Theophylact of Ohrid to write the Life of St Clement, that includes a detailed narration on the Cyrillo-Methodian Mission to Great Moravia and the deeds of Seven Apostles of Bulgaria. By reading the text carefully we see that the Life is divided into at least two parts. The Long Life of St Clement is the most complete work on the Cyrillo-Methodian mission, the fate of its protagonists, its continuation in Bulgaria and the beginning of Slavic literature in this country.
