Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper, based on ethnographic fieldwork, is to analyze the relation between matter and space of museums and home repositories, namely attics. The author discusses the phenomenon of storage of things that are seemingly useless, and considers the areas in which the concept of home repositories may be relevant to a museologist. The main point where some convergence can be found between these seemingly different spaces is the function of storing things. These objects carry memory about the past, constitute sense of identity and belonging in a national, local, genealogical and individual dimension.
