Summary/Abstract: In our study, we have presented the main theories regarding political representation, as they are expressed in the French doctrine, and also in the Anglo-Saxon doctrine, and the way these theories have underlay the perceiving of politics. In our analysis, we have focused on the most representative ideas expressed by authors like Sieyes, Rousseau, Hobbes and Locke and have presented the way in which these authors contributed to the theoretical substantiation of this theory. The theories regarding the political representation have evolved during the time, as society also did, adapting permanently to the interests or the represented, and being influenced by the role of the representatives, creating what today is called representative democracy.
