Activities of International Financial Institutions in the Situation of Instability of the Global Financial System – Examples of IMF and the World Bank

Summary/Abstract: The objective of the study was an attempt at assessing the operations of core international financial institutions in a situation of instability of the global financial system. The work was based on an analysis of data disclosed by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The analysis revealed that the institutions which used to support mainly poor countries suddenly began to provide support to developed countries affected by the crisis. However, the effect had adverse impact on the availability of external funding to poor countries which should remain the core beneficiaries of those institutions.
