Institutional Change and Transformation of Economic Systems – Theoretical Basis and Experiences

Summary/Abstract: Postsocialist transition is a great experiment in institutional and systematic changes. The process has not been completed yet, even in countries of the former Soviet block presently belonging to the European Union. The history of changes taking place in a large group of Central and Eastern European countries shows how important the understanding of the institutional framework of these reforms and the related analysis of the economic systems evolution is. Achievements of institutional economics and comparative economic systems analysis constitute a useful methodological background and provide a set of research instruments for the study of these historical processes
