Summary/Abstract: Investment decision by a company is affected by a variety of factors and conditions which constitute the determinants of investment activity. Investment activity of a company is influenced by two types of factors: the external ones which exist outside the company and the internal ones resulting from the company’s own capabilities. This relates to the fact that one of the elements of the company assessment and its investment potential consists of identification of opportunities and threats which exist in the surrounding business environment. While the possibility to avoid potential dangers and to use arising opportunities and prospects for business growth depends largely on the internal situation of the company. Due to the complex nature and broad scope of impact these factors have, it is essential to identify each of them. Once the good reasons for investing are clearly stated, both a deeper analysis and evaluation of their impact on the process of investment are facilitated. The paper presents the main determinants of enterprises investment decisions, indicating the nature and importance of both internal and external factors affecting the investment processes in enterprises of the steel industry
