Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The main aim of this article is to present the results of research on the differentiation of return on sales in employee–owned companies, measured by the ratio of net profit to net sales. Design/methodology/approach – The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used in empirical research. The estimation of synthetic measures of effectiveness was performed using the input–oriented model with constants returns to scale (CCR model), in which the return on sales was adopted as the effect and the average value of fixed assets as the input. Findings – Conducted empirical studies showed that according to the applied model CCR the initial period following the year of privatisation was the least effective, providing the lowest degree of effective usage of fixed assets in relation to gained return on sales. Seven employee-owned companies singled out positively in terms of effectiveness compared to other studied entities. Originality/value – The originality of empirical research results from the adopted methodology, i.e. the application of the non–parametric DEA method, basing on the procedure of linear programming in the analysis of return on sales of employee–owned companies.
