Summary/Abstract: In this study the author deals with one of the current pop cultural phenomenon, the young adult(YA). These kind of books and their adaptations in the forms of movies and tv series, raised at the beginning of the 2000s with the very popular Harry Potter series. In the first part of the article, the evolution of YA and the narrative elements are in the focus with some illustrative examples from different genres. In the second section, the fan activities are presented, and the author also examines that, typically who constitute the YA fandom. In the last part of the paper, the diversity of YA works is shown, which distinguishes YA texts from junior novels and films. Last but not least, some of the hungarian YA writers and books are also mentioned.
