Summary/Abstract: This article explores the morphological nature of what are traditionally called spatial prefixes in the East Caucasian language Dargi. Having developed historically from adverbs, the prefixes are now completely integrated into the verb's morphology, syntax and semantics. Instead of regarding verbs derived with these spatial prefixes as prefixed stems on a synchronic level as well, the alternative proposed here is to consider them bipartite stems. This also fits a recent proposal to regard bipartite stems as a feature of the East Caucasian language family as a whole.
