Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is the analysis of aspects related to efficiency and innovation of Polish district cities on the background of the Polish macroregions and countries of the European Union. The research area of this article will be North and Northwest Macro-region of Poland. An appropriate research tool, consisting of a set of statistical indexes, will be selected. Examples of major cities in the test area will be presented as well. Development strategies of the selected cities will serve as a source of information here. The culmination of the body of the chapter will be applications, the application which can be used for further regional policy in the communities surveyed. The last part of the main body of the article will be applications, which can be used for further regional policy in the communities surveyed. Regional research, knowledge and innovation depend on many factors – culture business, skills, education and training institutions, innovation support services, technology transfer mechanisms, regional infrastructure, mobility of researchers, funding sources, and creative potential. Poland, in terms of the value of GDP per capita expressed in purchasing power parity, in the period took the 10th place among the 28 countries belonging to the European Union. When it comes to those in provincial cities, they creatively and flexibly try to deal with historical and geographical loads.
