Realias and Perspectives of Distance Learning: in the Eyes of Prospective Users

Summary/Abstract: Over the last decade the number of higher education providers has grown markedly both in Lithuania and in its neighbouring countries. Provision of education has become more varied both in content and in form. Some providers keep traditional approach to teaching and learning, others demonstarte modern approach e.g. provide distance learning services. Though in Lithuania computer and distance education networks are in place, prospective distance education users are not sufficiently informed about them and are not prepared to transfer acquired foreign language and informatics skills to enter modern learning. The article reviews national documents and gives characteristics of prospective distance learning user. It also presents the results of prospective users’ opinion survey with particular focus on distance learning realias and perpspectives through the eyes of prospective users.
