Youth Risk Behaviours - A Review Of Definitions And Trends

Summary/Abstract: This text presents an analysis of the definitions and the phenomenology of youth risk behaviours. The analysis showed that risk behaviours include a wide array of issues, growing ever broader in scope. Furthermore, what remains out of the scope of risk behaviours is what is socially desirable. It is, therefore, understandable why research in this area lacks a social-critical approach. Namely, research and theoretical discussions are based on the objectivistic approach, and only rarely on the construc-tivistic approach. By pointing out the changes in the patterns of risk behaviours, we intended to raise the issue of the scientific approach, as well as to try to answer the question of whether it is more appropriate to talk about the society (ecosystem) that places young people at risk, or about young people at risk.
