Summary/Abstract: The knowledge of experts (professors and practitioners) comprises the complementary effects of theoretical and practical knowledge. The challenge for university teachers is to integrate teaching methods and utilize them effectively. This paper discusses the importance of case study as a teaching method for gaining theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of economic sciences. The key questions are: the selection of a case study, the roles of the teacher and the students, and the classroom atmosphere. Case studies put students in situations where they have to investigate, to analyse problems, and to propose solutions for them. To define and successfully solve a case study, professors/academics, practitioners and students need to cooperate closely.
