Metaphysics of Economics

Summary/Abstract: The article attempts to reformulate the concept and the role of metaphysics, which is present in the reflection on the philosophical foundations of economics. In the first part, based on literature studies, the typical of economists and generally consistent with neo-positivist philosophy approach to that problem is presented. Then, the author seeks to demonstrate that this approach is untenable,especially in view of the findings made in the philosophy of science in the second half of the twentieth century. The final conclusion is that a different, constructivist approach to the issue of metaphysical beliefs is more consistent and therefore more heuristically promising.
