Summary/Abstract: Purpose – The main aim of this article is to identify the key success factors and methods of its measurement in mergers and acquisitions. Design/methodology/approach – In order to verify the theoretical assumptions, it was implemented the method of case study analysis, with particular attention to the merger of Thomson and Reuters. The analysis covers a period of three years prior to the merger to seven years after its completion. The use of long horizon of the study will allow comprehensive examination of factors influencing the success of the merger Data were obtained from Thomson Reuters Eikon program, on the basis of an agreement between the company Thomson Reuters and the University of Gdansk, as well as from the financial reports of selected companies. Findings – The Thomson and Reuters merger has resulted in creating an international corporation with significant market share in the financial data provider sector. Although the merger transaction was finished in a crisis year 2008, it seems that the merger not only proved to be a success, but also contributed to minimize the consequences of the crisis for the company. Originality/value – The problem of long-term effects of mergers and acquisitions is relatively rarely discussed in the literature Moreover, authors decided to selected for analysis innovative and due to the structure, interesting sector of financial information providers.
