Selected Aspects of the Measuring Effectiveness Local Government Unit

Summary/Abstract: Purpose – Presenting the importance of efficiency, effectiveness and measures for their research, including assessing the measures in the selected local government unit. Design/methodology/approach – The analysis of literature, legislation, the source materials, observation and individual in-depth interviews with employees of the audited unit (director of budget department and 4 persons employed in this department). Findings – The article defines the concepts of efficiency and effectiveness relating to local government unit, it has also characterized measures used to measure them. Problems associated with construction of measures have been identified and the measures system in the audited unit has been evaluated. Originality/value – The analysis of the measures system indicates the need to improve it, in order to better reflects the efficiency and effectiveness of the action taken. By using the adjusting measures the unit also gets information that can be used for management purposes.
