Selected Aspects of Fiscal Consolidation in the Sector General Government

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is merely an attempt to evaluate the effectiveness of fiscal consolidation and some of its effects in Poland and in EU countries. The survey also response rate of nominal and structural deficits measured by the change of their shares in p.p. GDP change in GDP of 1 p.p. The analysis covered the years 2008–2014, and thus a period of deep crisis of 2008–2009 and the following years of sluggish economic growth with the dynamics of negative even in 2012. Photo EDP confirms the effectiveness of the consolidation. The subordination of fiscal policy in the case of this procedure has brought negative consequences, namely deepened its pro-cyclical character. The result was an increase in the structural deficit, which in the first 5 years of the period exceeded the nominal deficit.
