Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present Plato‘s philosophy of art. In his aesthetics and philosophy of art we find a number of different views on the meaning and role of art. In general, his prevailing view on this issue is that the world of art creates a distorted reality contrary to the way of the truth uncovered by human reason and represented by philosophy. The reasons for Plato‘s rejection of art and artists and his hostility to them stem from his theory of soul and polis. That‘s why his opinion on art is negative. To understand this conclusion, it is essential to know his anthropology and the starting points of his metaphysics.
