Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the roots and the results of politically motivated action to nationalize the place-names in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia which was started after „the Law of the place and street-names and marking the number of houses“ was brought (on 18th February 1930). The emphasis of the paper is laid on some Croatian place-names of Hungarian (Bjelovar, Daruvar, Erdevik, Monoštor, Sot, Vukovar) and German origin (Karlovac). The unsuccessful attempt to rename Ilok into Pragovo is presented extensively.
