Summary/Abstract: Readings from Greek and Roman writings, as well as visits to art and history museums contributed to the humanistic education of writer Marguerite Yourcenar; the values and principles of this type of education appear in the background of her writings. The essays of Marguerite Yourcenar outline the portrait of a particular humanist. Without any notes of conservatism, her essays promote nature and the human being in their essential dynamics, insisting on affections and emotions, on respect for alterity, which must define humanity. Dehumanization is one of the traps of the modern age; that is why the Yourcenarian essays present the dangers of this process, as well as solutions for preserving humanity.
