City image research using methods based on free associations

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the possibilities of the cities’ image measurement arising from the use of techniques based on free associations. The author emphasizes the importance of these methods in determining the mental image of the cities. The paper presents methods of measuring the general impressions of the city, both in functional and psychological dimension of the image, as well as for determining the unique elements of the image. To illustrate theoretical considerations the author discusses results of the survey concerning the image of three polish cities.
