City of the future – a city of people

Summary/Abstract: The article introduces the issue of civil society in Poland. It shows the development of this concept from ancient times to the present. The author presents the essence of local authorities cooperation with local activists, non-governmental organizations and foundations. There are presented current research on activity in the public life of the city and the needs in this regard. The article also includes examples of campaigns organized by the residents of settlements and the impact of Internet on urban development policy.
