Summary/Abstract: Gender equality in line with women rights is one of the essential principles of democracy. The processes of democratization in the country can be considered through disclosure of population awareness towards gender equality. The paper aims to sociologically assess the democratization processes in Lithuania in respect of gender equality principle application. On the basis of quantitative studies, the paper analyzes reflection of women’s rights and equality in the general concept of democracy; assesses the guarantors of equal rights and opportunities; discloses perception of gender discrimination, understanding of importance of the gender rights and their implementation level. It is argued that, although the Lithuanian population believe that gender equality in their country is implemented on large-scale, however, in public discourse the situation of the men rights implementation is more often seen better than that of women. It is noted that nearly one-third of Lithuanian residents perceive violations of gender equality and human rights to equality and existence of gender discrimination.
