Paleodemographic Study on Akgüney Late Roman- Byzantium Populations

Summary/Abstract: In this study skeleton remaining of 170 individuals excavated from Late Roman and mostly Byzantium Age layers of Akgüney necropol situated in Sinop province, were studied. Sex and age of skeletons, unearthed in 2015, were determined. They were made life tables and death rates of the population. 34 percent of individuals composing the population belong to baby and children. The rate of this group in general population is 20 %. 88 adult individuals consist of 43 women and 45 men. The rate of women in population in general has been determined as 25,2 % whereas this rate has been determined as 26,6 % for men. Mortality of male was found to be higher than female. In Akgüney population most intensive deaths have been observed in individuals between 0-5 years. Deaths in this interval are represented by a rate of 24,4 % within the population.
