Summary/Abstract: In her animated movie, Crulic, director Anca Damian uses the narrative scheme of autobiography among others. She presents the life story of Claudiu Crulic, an immigrant worker deceased after a hunger strike in a Polish prison, as if it was told by Crulic himself, as a commentary of his personal photographies. These photos are shown in animated context, they are modified in part, completed with drawn and moving elements. This paper aims to analyze the role of photography in the animated medium. On the one hand photos are the traditional tools of representing reality, on the other they build a biographic narrative themselves, similar to a family album. The mingle of photography and animation is also an allegory of the way memory works.
