Bank loans and deposits for local government institutions in search for new solution

Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the issues of servicing local government institutions by commercial banks with special emphasis on bank loans and deposits. It begins with a short introduction describing the specificity of local government entities and their field of activity. A short review of standard products and services offered to the local government was also presented. A special role in supporting the local government institutions by Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego was recognized. The second part of the publication is the case study referring to the most important issues of cooperation between the regional government and the selected commercial banks (the banks’ point of view) presented with the use of empirical data. The last part is the summary with the set of recommendations and suggestions to the both aforementioned parties. The author poses an open question/suggestion referring to the development of the hybrid instruments offered by the Polish banks to the local government to fully satisfy its needs.
