Summary/Abstract: The paper is an analysis and synthesis of the beliefs and knowledge of the Hungarians from Romania concerning the genesis of the world and the celestial bodies (sky, Earth, Sun, Moon, stars, rainbow); furnishing new details about the whole popular cosmogony of the Hungarians living in the Eastern part of the Carpathian basin. The author tries to present a comprehensive aspect of this domain based on fieldwork and the literature. He also refers to most recent beliefs such as ideas connected to landing on the Moon.
