Summary/Abstract: In this article we analyze the word as a semantic element of political discourse. The authors examined the reasons for classification of words in political discourse. Basic features of words-symbols, key words, words-slogans and words, which are used for discrediting the opponent in a public speech, are exposed. The paper suggests other classifications i.e. into forbidden, neutral and allowed words in political discourse. Prohibited words are divided into two groups: forbidden because of formal and informal reasons. The authors determine the mechanisms of control over them.
