Summary/Abstract: Dr Ferenc Mező is the most important figure of the Hungarian sport historiography. The Latin-Greek school teacher started to show interest in sport influenced by the Athens Olympic Games. He was happy to deal with sports history and he’s considered the most important collector and researcher of it even these days. As a classical philologist he researched primarily the history of antique Greek Olympic Games and the Hungarian reception of classical antique authors. He participated in the literature section of the 1928 Olympic Games artistic contest with his work entitled The History of the Olympic Games.According to the jury, this book was unique worldwide by its thoroughness and honored the author with the gold medal.
