Bulgarian national minority and the problem of the eastern lands of the Republic of Serbia

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the situation of the Bulgarian national minority and the problem of the eastern lands of the Republic of Serbia. The text presents the information on the distribution of the Bulgarian national minority in the Republic of Serbia and the conditions of social and political life in the area of education, mass media, cultural and political activities. The analysis also focuses on what steps have the Bulgarian authorities taken in order to improve the position of the Bulgarian national minority in the Republic of Serbia. The article is based on Bulgarian sources and literature. The author presents in it mainly Bulgarian minority viewpoint and interests of the Bulgarian state. The fragmentary account of the response of the Serbian state to the problem has also been included.
