Summary/Abstract: Gitanjali or “song offerings” is the title of the poems volume signed by Rabindranath Tagore, the first Nobel laureate of Asia (1913). Gitanjali can be also used as a term of confluence between East and West, as a word full of significance that can help explaining the Orient to the Occident. The present paper is trying to expose some facts regarding the meeting between East and West, as seen through the eyes of Mircea Eliade, the famous Romanian born historian of religion who started his journey in India, understanding like no other the Indian soul. We will also stop very often on his encounter with Rabindranath Tagore, the Poet who managed to bring the East into the heart of the West
