Summary/Abstract: The study aims at assessing spatial patterns of Slovak nationals participating in pre-primary, primary and secondary public education in the territory of Hungary. The research is based on a detailed statis-tical and spatial analysis of data provided by the Educational Office of Hungary. The analysis revealed regularities and differences in commuting and spatial distribution of schools where Slovak nationals are studying. The results show that each considered level of education is featured by different intensity and spatial extent of commuting to schools, as well as the motivation for such commuting. The gradually increasing number of Slovak nationals attending kindergartens and elementary schools and spatial concentration of these commuting flows result from agglomeration processes of the largest Slovak cities – Košice and particularly Bratislava, both located in the Slovak-Hungarian borderland. Nevertheless, spatial extent of commuting flows from Slovakia to kindergartens and elementary schools in Hungary is rather local. Commuting to secondary schools is featured by considerably larger, rather regional extent. Slovak nationals attending secondary schools in Hungary prefer predominantly Budapest and larger cities in the Hungarian-Slovak border region. Vast majority of commuting flows originates from communities in Slovakia with significant proportion of population with Hungarian ethnicity.
