Summary/Abstract: The medieval Ete is located in the region of Sárköz (Scharau) in the Tolna county, about 10 km south of the city Szekszárd and about 3 km west of Decs. The geographical position of Ete was very favorable: it was situated on the highest hill of the area, which extended to the river Sárvíz, and near a ridge on the western edge of Sárköz. Therefore, the best crossing point on the river Sárvíz was easily accessible from the Sárköz as well as from the road at the foot of the ridge. Thanks to this favorable location, Ete developed into one of the largest and most important market towns in the Sárköz region during the Middle Ages. Even today, the northeast-southwest running, elongated mountain range in the spring is surrounded on three sides by water, and on aerial photographs you can see that a water-rich area Ete originally also offered protection in west-southwestern direction. Overall, the settlement measures about 700 m in length and 300 m in width (about 21 ha).
