Summary/Abstract: Very high levels of autonomy, i. e. school responsibility for both resource allocation and setting curricula and assessment practices, have been observed in the Czech schools by recent PISA 2009 study. The study describes the system of school leadership training programmes in the Czech Republic and discusses whether they adequately cater for the needs of school managers. Empirical analysis is based on survey of three groups of managers that took part in training programmes in past five years. Data from questionnaires were supported by focus group interviews with students. The results show the growing demand for courses on personal management and instructional leadership. These topics are in present leadership training underrepresented.
