Summary/Abstract: In August 2013 Budapest hosted the fencing World Championships. One of the reasons that the international federation awarded the Hungarian capital with hosting the event was that in the same year the Hungarian Fencing Federation celebrated its 100th anniversary and also to honor the performance of Hungarian fencers at the Olympics,World and European Championships. It is impossible to name each and every person who made lasting efforts in Hungarian and international fencing. Just some of these names like Italo Santelli, Sándor Pósta, Aladár Gerevich, Rudolf Kárpáti, Pál Kovács, Endre Kabos, Ilona Elek, the sport diplomat and coach Béla Nagy, Béla Bay, József Sákovics, János Kevey, Béla Rerrich, Jenő Kamuti, Pál Schmitt. This study summarizes the history of Hungarian fencing, highlighting its crossroads and important events as well as the life of those persons whose life and athletic performance could be exemplary for the coming generations.
