Summary/Abstract: Olga Szabó-Orbán is one of the greatest figures of fencing in Romania, which since the mid-1950s to mid-1970s was a dominant figure in the sport. Orbán-Szabó has world champion titles, Olympic silver and bronze medals, and triumphed in many international competitions. Both the local and the national media followed her steps, but accounts differ in tone and style. The sports magazines from Bucharest called her a perfect patriot, but they also reprimanded her when she was unable to compete as expected communist leadership. At the same time defended the Hungarian press and journalists Hungarian introduced „between the lines” and considerations Hungarian community.
