Summary/Abstract: Heinrich Böll's initiatives to support Eastern European dissidents were never limited to pure lip service: Solzhenitsyn, after his expulsion, as well as Lew Kopelev, found his full personal support, or Miklós Haraszti, for whose book "Piece Wages" he wrote the foreword. His latest venture to support SZETA, the Hungarian opposition fund for the support of the poor, is also in this tradition. Countervotes spoke to Heinrich Böll on the occasion of an invitation from the Karl Renner Institute in Vienna about his intentions.
