Summary/Abstract: The cosmic dimension of the mystery of Christ, an important strand both in biblical Christology and in the thought of the early Church, has recently been acknowledged as one of the aspects of Christological reflection needing to be renewed. Many contemporary theologians remain under the spell of Teilhard de Chardin’s evolutionary vision of the cosmic Christ, a vision which has received many interpretations, from total acceptance to criticism and rejection of its basic theses. Karl Rahner also tried to confront traditional Christology with a modern and evolutionary vision of the world. Among the newer approaches to this subject is Cardinal Giacomo Biffi’s cosmic Christocentrism.
