Summary/Abstract: This paper analyzes manifestations of populism, which occurred during the Romanian parliamentary elections campaign in 2012. The messages taken into consideration were selected following a monitoring activity, which focused on both the online environment and audio-visual mass media. According to our findings, in the elections campaign, the subject most frequently approached was related to the actions of some external forces that attempted to seize the national resources. As consequence, a significant part of the national-populist discourses depict Romania as a country whose wealth is alienated, becoming victim of the foreigners’ desires of enrichment. Given this, the main targets of the analyzed messages were the International Monetary Fund and the European Union.
