Summary/Abstract: This article will discuss the recurring question of tolerance in Islam. Particularly with regard to the situa-tion and rights of women, Islam is often accused of oppression and extremism. The motives that the critics use for this are often the same: the woman is restricted in her freedom of action and decision by the regulated proscriptions and prohibitions in Islam and thus is disadvantaged compared to the man. However, what the individual reservations and rights of women mean in Islam is often not questioned by them and immediately ignored. In this context, the extremism that is repeatedly attributed to Islam should also be discussed.
