Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the presence of poetry in Polish daily newspapers in the second half of the nineteenth century, exemplified by lyrical poems printed in the year 1870 in “Kurier Warszawski”. Verses were often published in this newspaper. They were written by poets of various generations, often employed as regular contributors (i.e. Władysław Szymanowski, Aleksander Michaux, or Wiktor Gomulicki). Taking into account the profile of daily newspapers, serving primarily as justa source of information, the artistical level of the verses published in“Kurier Warszawski” was extremely high. In contrast to such newspapers as “Dziennik Polski” or “Kurier Codzienny”, occasional poetry in “Kurier Warszawski” was marginalized.
