Summary/Abstract: The authors of the article are participating in the reflection of the Church in Poland about the pastoral program: “The Church: Home and School of Communion”, with special attention on the last issue in the three-year cycle: “Being the salt of the earth”. Referring to the life and the thought of St. John of the Cross, they demonstrate that the way leading to union with God demands the deepening of Christian life. We are speaking of the individual experience of God, who on the way of unifying the soul with Himself allows for its experience of the "dark night". In order to experience it with spiritual gain, it is important to give oneself into the hands of experienced spiritual directors. The climate of spiritual accompaniment serves well the recognizing of the Christian vocation on the respective levels of spiritual life, leading to the full union with God.
