Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author focuses on the analysis of various functions of the theme of madness in Joseph Conrad’s Tales of Unrest. She recognizes different variants of insanity in the stories collected in the volume as a model describing modern civilization – the image of the madmen in the texts of the author of Heart of Darkness both represents the negative aspects of contemporary reality, and invokes the fundamental values (such as dignity, fidelity, loyalty and honour).
