Summary/Abstract: Distance education is a dynamically developing form of education. More and more institutions offer wide range of distance courses, and in some higher education institutions one can get a diploma this way as well. The Faculty of Public Administration at the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration train civil servants in full-time, evening and correspondence courses as well as in postgraduate courses. Recently teaching informatics for our correspondence students has faced difficulties, because of the reduction of teaching hours. This inspired us to change both the content and - first of all - the methodology of our teaching. We found that to secure the integrity of educational goals, and an efficient and quality training, distance education should be introduced in the field of informatics. New educational materials are going to help our students learning at home after we have spent some contact hours (lectures and seminars) together in the institute. This article presents the first steps we have made in preparing our new teaching form.
