Book covers and book jackets as objects of interdisciplinary research

Summary/Abstract: Theoretical and methodological research into books very often ignore the subject of covers and jackets except the statement that they are elements of a construction of a book. Consequently some issues concerning covers are still missing in research. Moreover, only few interdisciplinary research projects regarding this issue have been conducted. Very often researchers focus only on their field and therefore the exhaustive analysis cannot be completed. Interdisciplinarity in research is not obligatory but it might be advisable if a researcher wants to achieve thorough results. It is therefore important to consider what functions each discipline attributes to the cover and the dust cover and in what way they organize and direct research.
