Feminine identity in paradigm of the modernity of Ivan Franko

Summary/Abstract: In this article, we look at the images of female characters in the prose of Ukrainian writer Ivan Franko, who go beyond the generally accepted typologies of female characters in Ukrainian literature. Franko deconstructs the model of the woman in the patriarchal Ukrainian society, totally dependent on men, making an important first step towards the modernist and neo-modernist style and offering a completely different typology of gender identification.
