Summary/Abstract: The author shows in his article the problem of the pre-existence of Jesus Christ, which is present in the Epistle to the Colossians (1,15-20). It is not easy to give a good definition of pre-existence but it is necessary for an understanding of the presented issue. The Christological hymn declares the pre-existence of Jesus Christ (and not only of the Word of God). He is proclaimed “the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation” (prototokos) (1,15). Jesus Christ stands at the head above all created things. Christology knows two streams of interpretation of Jesus’ priority over creation. The first tries to explain the preexistence of Christ with the model of his two natures: divine and human. The second one explains the hymn of Col according to the literal sense. This means that Jesus was present during the creation of the universe. The author of this article prefers the literal and faithful to the grammar interpretation, in spite of the difficulty in its explaining
