Summary/Abstract: The Diocese of Wigry was established in the year 1799. To it were included parishes from the Diocese of Wilno. From these were formed the deaneries of Białystok, Knyszyn and Sokółka. The author of the article presents the program of parish services on Sundays and holydays on the basis of documents of the visitations conducted by the deans. This program was based upon the regulations issued after the Council of Trent and repeated during the synods of the Diocese of Wilno. On Saturdays and vigils of holydays Vespers were sung. On the morning the priest and the organist sang psalms in Latin, after which the faithful sang the Rosary and litanies. Before High Mass the prayers of the catechism were recited, there was the aspersion with holy water and a procession. In the afternoon Vespers were celebrated. The priest celebrated only one Mass on Sundays and feasts, similarly on weekdays. The faithful gathered for the parochial Mass called “Suma”. If there was a second priest in the parish, he celebrated Mass during the Rosary and litanies. Teachings and sermons were differentiated. The first took place on Sundays during the year and explained the truths included in the catechism prayers, the second explained the message of the individual feast days. Such a program remained in use until the beginning of the 20th century
