Preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage as a Sacrament of Faith and Love

Summary/Abstract: The far-reaching changes happening before our eyes in the culture and customs of society touch the spheres of our religious and spiritual life. In relation to this, there comes a need to correspondently prepare people for the celebration of Sacraments, in this, the Sacrament of Marriage. In this article, the author, basing his views on the document: The Pope’s Council to the Family “About preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage”, points to the need for such preparation for the celebration of the Sacrament of Marriage for it to truly be a Sacrament of faith and love. Faith, a personal relationship with Jesus, is a necessary element for fruitful conduct in the Sacrament and for development of the grace the Sacrament holds. A relationship with Jesus is a relationship of love, which is necessary for a married couple to understand the entity of love, that shown to us by Jesus- an unselfish love, a complete and irrevocable gift of oneself. This love is taught to the married couple by Christ, so that through living it, they can realize Christ’s love for The Church.
