The caregiver’s responsiveness and the sense of child’s autonomy in early childhood

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to show the essence of the positive relationship between a caregiver and a child in early childhood. These relations can be defined as the readiness of adults to respond to signals coming from a child. They are not based on the tutor’s directiveness, but on supporting and accompanying the child in his/her development. The author draws attention to the possible attitudes of adults towards the emerging process of autonomy of children in early childhood. The sense of security and trust make the basis for the development of self-reliance and the sense of autonomy in children under 3 years of age. This is confirmed by the results of the author's own research on the desirable traits and behaviors of caregivers in a crèche. /Celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie znaczenia pozytywnych relacji między opiekunem a dzieckiem we wczesnym dzieciństwie. Relacji, które polegają na gotowości ze strony dorosłych do odpowiadania na sygnały płynące ze strony dziecka. Relacji, które nie opierają się na dyrektywności opiekuna, lecz na wspieraniu i towarzyszeniu dziecku w rozwoju. Autorka zwraca uwagę na możliwe postawy dorosłych wobec rozpoczynającego się kształtowania procesu autonomii dzieci we wczesnym dzieciństwie. Poczucie bezpieczeństwa i zaufanie stanowią podstawę rozwoju samo-dzielności, poczucia sprawstwa i autonomii dzieci do lat 3. Potwierdzają to wyniki badań własnych autorki dotyczących istnienia pożądanych cech i zachowań opiekunów w żłobku.
